Section 2. Composition
The Executive Council of the Young Lawyers Division shall be composed of the following:
(a) the president of the Young Lawyers Division;
(b) the president-elect of the Young Lawyers Division;
(c) the secretary of the Young Lawyers Division;
(d) the treasurer of the Young Lawyers Division;
(e) the editor of the Young Lawyers Division Newsletter who shall be a
member ex officio and shall not have the right to vote at any meeting
of the Executive Council unless qualified to vote under any other
provision of these bylaws;
(f) the immediate past president of the Young Lawyers Division;
(g) two members from each Congressional District within the State of
Georgia; one to be designated as Post 1 and the other to be designated
as Post 2:
(1) There shall be an alternate member for each Post
from each Congressional District who shall serve on the Executive
Council in the event of death, resignation, absence, or termination of
office of the member holding the Post from said Congressional District
under any provisions of these bylaws. While acting as a member, such
alternate shall have all the rights, powers and duties of a regular
member.
(2) In the event that any member or alternate member
of the Executive Council representing a Congressional District ceases
to have either an office or residence in the Congressional District
which such member represents, such member or alternate member shall
continue to serve on the Executive Council only to the next annual
meeting. If the term of office of such member or alternate does not
normally expire at such annual meeting, there shall be a special
election to fill out the remainder of such expired term. Such special
election and nominations therefore shall be conducted as elections and
nominations for such positions are normally conducted.
(h) a nonresident member of the Young Lawyers Division which shall be
defined as an active member of the Young Lawyers Division, in good
standing, residing outside of the State of Georgia:
(1) There shall be an alternate nonresident member,
which shall be defined as an active member of the Young Lawyers
Division, in good standing, residing outside the State of Georgia who
shall serve on the Executive Council in the event of death,
resignation, absence, or termination of office of the member holding
the nonresident post under any provisions of these bylaws. While acting
as a nonresident member of the Executive Council, such alternate shall
have all the rights, powers, and duties of a regular member.
(2) In the event that the nonresident member or
nonresident alternate member of the Executive Council ceases to be a
nonresident of the State of Georgia, such nonresident member or
nonresident alternate member shall continue to serve on the Executive
Council only to the next annual meeting. If the term of office of such
nonresident member or nonresident alternate does not normally expire at
such annual meeting, there shall be a special election to fill out the
remainder of such expired term. Such special election and nominations
therefor shall be conducted as elections and nominations for such
positions are normally conducted.
(i) the presidents or chairpersons of local chapters of the Young
Lawyers Division (as hereinafter defined); provided, however, that each
president or chairperson may, by written notice to the secretary at
least ten days prior to each Executive Council meeting, appoint a
member of such local chapter as an alternate delegate to serve on the
Executive Council in the event of his or her absence;
(j) those directors appointed by the president in accordance with these
bylaws. These persons shall be members ex officio and shall not have
any right to vote at any meeting of the Executive Council unless
qualified to vote under any other provisions of these bylaws;
(k) members at large, not to exceed 12, who are properly elected in accordance with these bylaws; and
(l) all chairpersons of all committees appointed by the president.
These persons shall be members ex officio and shall not have any right
to vote at any meeting of the Executive Council unless qualified to
vote under any other provision of these bylaws.
(m) One Law Student Division Representative from each of the accredited
law schools in Georgia. These persons shall be members ex officio and
shall not have any right to vote at any meeting of the Executive
Council.
