"And Justice for All" State Bar Campaign for GLSP Needs $168,000 More to Reach Goal!
Help us reach the goal! State Bar President Gerald M. Edenfield has recommended a campaign goal of $500,000 to be reached by December 31st. A total of 2,578 donors have contributed $332,000. More than 35,000 bar members have not made their contributions yet.
Every gift counts! Your support of $200 or $300 or more helps GLSP handle critical civil legal cases for low-income Georgians. Whatever you give is as critical now as ever. For 36 years, GLSP has provided rural, low-income families and individuals with high quality services by lawyers trained in poverty law. Family violence, housing, health care, education, employment, consumer fraud, and more are the types of cases GLSP handles every day. GLSP's mission to provide access to justice and opportunities out of poverty for Georgians with low-incomes is still vital to our communities.
GLSP Executive Director Phyllis J. Holmen says, "Our Bar's advertisements say that 'Justice for All' is a promise worth keeping. GLSP honors that promise for thousands of clients every year. Help us make a difference!"
The State Bar of Georgia launched the "And Justice for All" State Bar Campaign for GLSP 22 years ago to help raise a substantial base of support for GLSP from individual bar members and law firms throughout the state. Bar campaign support has grown considerably in recent years, and peaked in 2005 due primarily to the bar dues opt-out for GLSP raising almost $800,000 from close to 6,000 bar members. GLSP was able to hire lawyers for sparsely staffed offices in rural, remote areas.
GLSP was founded by the State Bar in 1971 in response to the need for accessible legal services for low-income individuals and families in rural areas. Today, GLSP is the state's largest legal aid organization providing civil legal services to low-income Georgians. Nearly 1.5 million Georgians in 154 counties outside metro-Atlanta are eligible for services.
