YLD Disaster Assistance Hotline for Storm Victims

Free Legal Assistance Available for Storm Victims
Partnership between Georgia legal organizations, ABA and FEMA

The State Bar of Georgia Young Lawyers Division (YLD), in conjunction with the American Bar Association (ABA) YLD, the Georgia Legal Services Program, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have set up a disaster relief hotline to assist persons affected by the severe storms, flooding, tornadoes and straight-line winds that have hit Georgia since March 26.  Storm victims who cannot afford legal representation and live in the impacted counties--Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Brooks, Camden, Coffee, Colquitt, Decatur, Dougherty, Echols, Lanier, Lowndes, Miller, Mitchell, Montgomery, Pierce, Tattnall, Tift, Ware, Wheeler, and Worth counties--are encouraged to call the toll free number 1-866-584-8027 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday, to request assistance.

Storm victims who qualify for assistance will be matched with Georgia attorneys who have volunteered to provide free legal help for issues such as landlord/tenant disputes, family law, consumer law, housing law, unemployment benefits issues and identification replacement.  Volunteer attorneys will return messages left at the toll free number; callers may request that a Spanish-speaking attorney return their call.
