On Tuesday, March 5, I joined Attorney General Sam Olens at the State Capitol to kick off the 2nd Annual Georgia Legal Food Frenzy. I am proud to carry on this successful initiative by partnering with our attorney general, the Georgia Food Bank Association and the Young Lawyers Division to support this important cause.
The 2013 Legal Food Frenzy will take place April 22 - May 3. Lawyers across the state will compete outside the courtroom to raise food and funds for our state's seven regional food banks. The winner will be awarded the Attorney General's Cup, with awards being given to the winners of numerous other categories.
Last year, Georgia lawyers generously raised the equivalent of 612,000 pounds of food for Georgia's regional food banks. This year our goal is to raise 750,000 pounds. I hope you will help us reach that goal by signing up for the competition today at www.galegalfoodfrenzy.org.
We are all called into the profession of law to serve others. Food is a basic need of all 10 million Georgians; yet, sadly, too many of our fellow Georgians cannot meet this basic need for themselves and their precious children. By participating in the Legal Food Frenzy, you can help meet this critical need of our fellow man and know you have truly helped serve another.
When members of the State Bar of Georgia take a leading role in successful efforts like this, it goes a long way toward bettering our state and fulfilling our collective commitment to promote the cause of justice, uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens.
I hope you will join me in this great cause.
A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats,
