Warning Issued Over "Court Case" Email Scam

The Georgia Administrative Office of the Courts has issued a new warning concerning an email scam purporting to concern a "Court Case" involving the recipients. The message asks the recipients to open an attachment and warns that unless they attend a hearing, a judge may hear the case in their absence.

The administrative office warns recipients not to open the attachment, which may contain a virus or malware.

"The AOC has received reports from other court-related agencies and attorneys about the same scam. Given the national scope of this scam and the apparent large number of recipients, our office is posting this additional notice to warn the courts and the public," the notice said.

An example of the message in the email reads:

Notice to Appear,

The copy of the court notice is attached to this letter.

Note: If you do not attend the hearing the judge may hear the case in your absence.

Truly yours,
Clerk of Court.
