Edward Olmsted Henneman Jr. and the Atlanta office of Jones Day have been selected as recipients of the 2013 A Business Commitment Pro Bono Award by the State Bar of Georgia Access to Justice Committee and the State Bar of Georgia Pro Bro Bono Project.

Georgia lawyers are encouraged to perform at least 50 hours of pro bono work each year for low-income Georgians or for organizations that serve low-income Georgians. Transactional pro bono work allows lawyers who do not normally work in a courtroom setting to meet and exceed their pro bono aspirational goal of 50 hours. The A Business Commitment (ABC) Pro Bono Business Law Award was created to honor the significant business law pro bono contributions of an individual lawyer, corporate legal department or law firm to the nonprofit community and community economic development sector in Georgia.

The Access to Justice Committee and the Pro Bono Project of the State Bar recognized Henneman for his extensive services in developing the framework for affordable housing and a housing trust fund for the City of Savannah. Henneman also has a long history of commitment to pro bono transactional legal services in general as a volunteer lawyer for the Savannah Regional Office of Georgia Legal Services Program, Inc.

The State Bar of Georgia also selected Jones Day for its stellar commitment to transactional pro bono services. Jones Day has been engaged for several years in the delivery of pro bono transactional work for many nonprofits in Atlanta, including organizations such as the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, AIDS-related service organizations, and Living Water for Girls. In addition to assisting nonprofits with specific business-related legal needs, Jones Day lawyers have provided legal education and workshops for nonprofits on topics such as avoiding litigation and tax law.

Henneman and Jones Day will be honored at a special pro bono awards reception at the State Bar of Georgia headquarters in October, to be held in conjunction with the annual American Bar Association National Pro Bono Celebration.
