    August Issue of the Georgia Bar Journal
    The August issue of the Georgia Bar Journal should arrive in your mailbox soon. Highlights of the issue include the Annual Meeting wrap-up, a profile of new Bar President Jay Cook and a scholarly article about the Georgia Direct Action Statute. You can preview the issue on our website.

    Membership Dues Reminder -- Final Notice
    If you have not paid your dues this year, please mail your check as soon as possible to remain in good standing. We must receive your dues payment by Sept. 1, 2006, to ensure your name is included in the 2006-07 printed Membership Directory. For your convenience, you may access a blank dues form on our website. For more information, call 404-527-8777. (Please note: you must include your bar number on all correspondence.)

    Casemaker Training Offered at Bar Conference Center
    Learn how to effectively use and navigate the Georgia Casemaker Library. Two training classes will be held at the Bar Conference Center on Aug. 15, and again on Aug. 29, 2006. Two classes per day will be offered at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each session is limited to the first 10 registrants. The registration deadline for each class is 12 p.m. the day before the class. For your planning purposes, please note that classes fill up quickly.

    State Bar of Georgia Membership Directory -- Update Your Information
    It’s almost time for us to print the 2006-07 Membership Directory. Please confirm that we have your correct contact information. Simply look up your information on the Directory Search function of our website. If needed, updates to your Member Profile can be made online. September 1 is the deadline to ensure that your information will be printed correctly in the new Membership Directory. If you need additional assistance with updating your information, please call 404-527-8777.

    Georgia’s Third Annual Solo & Small Firm Institute and Technology Showcase
    Nov. 30 through Dec. 2, 2006, you are invited to attend the Third Annual Solo and Small Firm Institute and Technology Showcase at the State Bar of Georgia Conference Center. This three-day conference is designed for solo practitioners, firms of 20 or fewer attorneys and their staff. In addition to highly rated CLE programs, the conference will also include a separate "Practice Success Boot Camp" that offers the inside track on making your practice more productive and profitable. Also new this year, the Vendor Showcase will highlight our sponsors’ products and services geared specifically for the legal community. Stay tuned for more information about this important program.

    State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors Meetings
    The State Bar of Georgia Fall Board of Governors Meeting will take place Sept. 15 - 17, 2006, at the Hilton Garden Inn & Athens Classic Center in Athens, Ga. The deadline to register is Sept. 8. For more information about this event please visit our website.

    The Midyear Meeting will move from Atlanta to Savannah, Ga., on Jan. 18 - 20, 2007. If your organization would like to host a meeting as part of the program, please contact Michelle Garner at 404-527-8790 or michelle@gabar.org no later then Friday, Aug. 18, 2006.

    Following the Spring Board of Governors Meeting, a trip to Bermuda is planned for April 12 - 15, 2007. If you are planning to participate in this trip, please note that passports or certified birth certificates with a raised seal are required for travel to Bermuda.

    Notice of Road Construction Near the State Bar
    If you are traveling to the State Bar in downtown Atlanta, please note the Georgia Department of Transportation will be working on the Peachtree Street Bridge through February of 2008. This work may affect your route to the State Bar. Please check detour instructions and map at the Georgia DOT's website.
