State Bar Annual Meeting -- June 14-17
The 2007 Annual Meeting, held at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., is almost here. If you would like to attend, and have not registered, we are offering on-site registration at the hotel starting Thursday, June 14 at 9 a.m. Download the brochure for more information.

State Bar Kicks-off "And Justice for All" Campaign for Georgia Legal Services
Your campaign gift is your best opportunity to show your commitment to making equal access to justice available for all of our citizens. This annual campaign for justice raises monetary gifts from individual lawyers and law firms throughout the state to support the critical legal assistance provided by Georgia Legal Services. Nearly 1.5 million Georgians with low-incomes in 154 counties outside metro-Atlanta are eligible for services. Family violence, health care problems, wrongful evictions, elder abuse, consumer fraud, school issues, and more are the types of civil cases handled by Georgia Legal Services everyday.

Georgia Legal Services was founded by the State Bar in 1971 in response to the need for accessible legal services for low-income individuals and families in rural areas. Today, Georgia Legal Services is the state’s largest legal aid organization providing civil legal services for the poor. Give online at www.glsp.org. Add on your gift to your bar dues payment or mail in your check to Georgia Legal Services, State Bar Center, 104 Marietta Street, Suite 250, Atlanta, GA 30303. Gifts of $250 or more are recognized in the Georgia Bar Journal. All gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Please give generously. Every gift counts!

New Advance Directive for Health Care Act Signed
The General Assembly passed a new Advance Directive for Health Care Act, which was signed by Gov. Sonny Perdue last month. House Bill 24 is designed to provide for an advance directive for health care, which combines provisions of a living will and a durable power of attorney for health care. Download a copy of the new form.

Visit the Lawyers Foundation Silent Auction Booth at the Annual Meeting
Make your plans now to stop by the Lawyers Foundation Silent Auction Booth #32/33 at the Annual Meeting to view the items up for auction. The Silent Auction will open at 9 a.m., Thursday, June 14, and close at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 16. The Silent Auction benefits the Challenge Grant Program of the State Bar and the more you give, the more we can give.

Jonesboro High School Wins National Mock Trial Competition
Jonesboro High School earned Georgia's third national mock trial title when it defeated Kalamazoo Central High School of Michigan in the final round of the National High School Mock Trial Championship, which was held May 10-12, in Dallas, Texas. Congratulations Jonesboro High School! More of the story.

Download the registration form and fax it to Kim Henry at 404-287-8394. Please register for the class by 12 p.m. the day before the class is scheduled.

Law Practice Management Enews Tip
The Law Marketing Portal is a great website for browsing for current ideas and developments. You might find articles, interviews and transcripts of seminars on legal marketing and billing issues. Many experts feel that the alternative fee arrangement question is at least as much a marketing issue as it is a financial issue.
