Mark your calendars now
for the State Bar's 2009 Annual Meeting, June 18-21, at Amelia
Island. The hotel cut-off date is tomorrow, May 15. Early bird registration
cut-off is May 29; final cut-off is June 5. A block of rooms has
been reserved for the meeting, with room rates starting at $151
plus applicable resort fees and taxes. To make reservations and

MESSAGE FROM THE SUPREME
COURT OF GEORGIA REGARDING FILING FEES
|
|
|
As of July 1, 2009, fees
for filing appeals, applications for appeals and applications for a
writ of certiorari will increase from $80 to $300 for all civil
cases. That is the day House Bill 283 takes effect, amending OCGA
§5-6-4 and increasing the fees for filings in the Supreme Court of
Georgia. The filing fee for criminal cases will remain at $80, as
will the fee in habeas corpus cases for persons who are
incarcerated.

number of disaster law resources that you can access to help your
community recover from a disaster. Click here to learn more about these resources.

listserv, which becomes quite busy during tornado and hurricane seasons
here in Georgia. To join the listserv, send an empty e-mail to disasterlawga-subscribe@mail.lawhelp.org.

family disaster plan on the Georgia Emergency Management Agency website.

YLD DISASTER LEGAL
ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
|
|

The YLD Disaster Legal Assistance Committee, in conjunction
with the ABA/YLD and the Georgia Legal Services Program, has set up
a disaster relief hotline to assist persons affected by the severe
storms that have hit Georgia since March 26. Your assistance is
needed to help with issues dealing with landlord/tenant, family
law, consumer law, housing law and unemployment, just to name a

RESEARCH OFFERED THROUGH THE STATE BAR

navigate the Georgia Casemaker library. Training classes will be offered
at the Bar Center on Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 28, from
10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. The sessions are limited to the
