2010 Family Law Institute Scholarship Information
The State Bar Family Law Section is excited to announce that it will offer scholarships to five Family Law Section members to attend the 2010 Family Law Institute in Destin, Florida May 27-29, 2010. Each Scholarship will pay $1,000 towards the ICLE registration costs for the seminar, accommodations for three nights during the seminar at the rack rate room rate, and mileage at the IRS rate incurred in traveling to and from Destin.
The goal of the scholarship is to provide funds for lawyers from around the State who otherwise could not afford to attend the seminar and to encourage Section members to provide pro bono services. In exchange for receiving the scholarship, the applicants chosen will be required to attend the 3 day seminar and accept one Pro Bono domestic violence and/or divorce case referral from the Georgia Legal Services Program before December 31, 2010. The Georgia Legal Services program provides representation to low-income clients around the State who cannot afford to pay a lawyer.
The scholarships will be awarded based on financial need and commitment to Pro Bono work. Reimbursement will be made two to three weeks following the Institute after presentation of proof of expenses. To be eligible to apply, you must be a State Bar Family Law Section member in good standing who has never been the subject of any disciplinary action. To apply, e-mail Section Chair, Tina Shadix Roddenbery by March 31, 2010, and provide to her the following:
Name, office address, phone number and email address;
Year of admission to the Bar and work history;
List and details of any prior pro bono service;
List and details of involvement in any community service or Bar Association programs or projects;
An explanation of your financial need; and
A written statement, less than 200 words, why the scholarship should be awarded to you.
