Fiduciary Law

Fiduciary

The Fiduciary Law Section's primary goal is to support and educate its members practicing in the field of fiduciary law. These areas include wills, trusts, guardian and ward, descent and distribution, administration of estates, probate, estate and fiduciary tax planning, elder law, Medicare and Medicaid planning, retirement planning, healthcare decision-making, charitable gifting, trust companies, trust or other fiduciary powers of corporate entities, and related subjects.

The Section actively supports the continuing education of the bar in the fiduciary law field by coordinating programs with ICLE such as the Basic Fiduciary Practice Seminars, the Estate Planning Institute held in February and the Fiduciary Law Institute held in July. The Section further promotes cooperation with other professional and business groups engaged in related activities.

The Section members study, review, and initiate proposed legislation and administrative policy for the improvement of the fiduciary laws in Georgia and make appropriate recommendations to the State Bar of Georgia. The Section works with the probate judges to improve the administration of justice and seeks to maintain high standards of professionalism and a strong sense of collegiality among the Section members.

The Section regularly bestows the Verner F. Chaffin Career Service Award to a member of the Section
to recognize their outstanding contribution to the Section.
